Creating a Google Play Developer Account
To host your Taptool app in the Google Play Store, you need to create a Google Play Developer account. This comprehensive guide will walk you through the registration process.
Before You Begin
Before starting your Google Play Developer enrollment, there are some important prerequisites:
- There is a one-time $25 enrollment fee
- You need a Gmail account to register.
- You must set up 2-Step Verification on your Google account
- You'll need your DUNS number for business verification
Fees may change at any time and may include taxes.
If you don't have a Gmail account, you can create one here.
To set up Google's 2-Step Verification, please refer to Google's official guide.
Step-by-Step Registration Process
Step 1: Access the Google Play Console Signup
- Navigate to https://play.google.com/console/signup
- Confirm you are logged into the correct Gmail account that you want associated with your Google Play Developer account
- Check the top left corner under 'Google Play Console' to verify the account
Step 2: Choose Your Account Type
- Select Organization or Business as your account type
- Click Continue on the following screen
Make sure to sign up as an "Organization or Business" and not as an "Individual." This is required for proper app publishing with Taptool.
Step 3: Enter Developer Information
- Enter your developer name (this will be visible to users on the Google Play Store)
- Link your account to a payment profile:
- Click Create or Select payment profile
- If you have an existing payment method tied to your Google Account, select it from the options
- If not, select Create new payment profile and enter the required payment details
Step 4: Provide Business Details
- Enter your DUNS number
- You can use the DUNS Look Up tool if you need to find your number
- Verify your DUNS details and click Confirm
- Fill in your organization's details:
- Legal business name (exactly as registered)
- Business address
- Contact information
- On the next page, enter your company's phone number and email address
note
These contact details will be publicly available on your Google Play Store listing once your app is published.
Step 5: Complete Personal Information
- In the About you section, explain why you are registering for a Google Play Developer account
- Example: "To publish a mobile app for my e-commerce business"
- Answer questions honestly about your role and intentions
Step 6: Provide App Information
- Complete the Apps section:
- List the number of apps you plan to create (typically "1" if just publishing your Taptool app)
- Answer No for earning money on Google Play (We do not support paid apps)
- For App Categories, select None of the Above
Step 7: Finalize Registration
- Review the terms and conditions
- Check the boxes to agree to the terms
- Click Create an account and pay
- Complete the payment process for the $25 enrollment fee
- Your Google Play Developer account will be created
Business Verification Process
Google may require additional verification of your business:
- If Google Play is unable to verify your business with the initial information provided, you'll need to submit additional documentation
- You'll see a banner upon accessing Google Play Console with a link to complete the necessary verification steps
- Follow the instructions to upload any required identification documents
- The verification process typically takes 1-3 business days
Inviting Taptool to Your Account
Once your account is created and verified, you need to invite the Taptool team as administrators to help publish your app:
- Navigate to the Google Play Console
- Select Users and permissions from the left sidebar
- Click Invite new users
- Enter team@taptool.co in the email field
- Select Administrator as the access level
- Click Invite user to complete the invitation process
The Taptool team needs administrator access to properly configure and publish your app. This access allows them to manage app listings, releases, and other essential functions.
After sending invitation, notify your Implementation Specialist via email or live chat.
Account Security Best Practices
To keep your Google Play Developer account secure:
- Use a strong, unique password for your Gmail account
- Keep 2-Step Verification enabled at all times
- Store recovery information (backup email, phone number) and keep it updated
- Review account activity periodically for any unauthorized access
Next Steps
After your Google Play Developer account is fully set up and you've invited the Taptool team:
- Your Implementation Specialist will contact you to confirm receipt of the invitation
- Begin preparing your app metadata and assets for submission
- Work with your Implementation Specialist to configure app settings
- Prepare your privacy policy and terms of service documents
